John Busby was an acclaimed landscape and wildlife artist and one of the pioneers of drawing birds from life. Internationally renowned for his wildlife art; as an author, teacher and naturalist he was a pivotal influence on a whole generation of artists.
His distinctive style – the ability to capture a bird’s character with just a few quick contour lines – has been emulated by artists all over the world.
“John can say more with a single 6B pencil line than many others can with a hundred brush strokes.” Barry van Dusen, artist
He was awarded Master Wildlife Artist by the Woodson Art Museum in Wisconsin in 2009 in recognition of the influence he had on the development of wildlife art over his lifetime.

He is also my late father, and I have been able to carry on my mission to make his many illustrations and watercolours available to those who love his work and to bring his art to the attention of new generations through the website and social media.
Most of the artworks on offer are original watercolours and drawings. Many are of Scottish wildlife or landscapes as he lived near Edinburgh and travelled to many parts of Scotland. Greatly in demand as an illustrator many of these drawings are the originals of published work. We also have a few prints available as well as copies of the books he wrote.
I live in St Andrews and will refund any postage costs on work collected or delivered in the town (just mention it on the order form). If you catch me at a Rose and Thistle Market there is a good discount available on the day – do come and browse.
I hope you enjoy looking at his life and work.
Rachel Shearer (John’s daughter)
