The seven golf courses at the ‘home of golf’ are owned by the town and its residents after it was bequeathed by the Cheape Estate, the land having been in the family since its purchase by local landowner James Cheape in 1821.
Following an act of parliament in 1974 it has been managed by the St Andrews Links Trust who are responsible for the maintenance of this historic ‘links’ land.
THE OLD COURSE The world’s most famous golf course and probably the oldest at 600 years, widely regarded as the ‘Home of Golf’ the old lady was re-modelled by old Tom Morris almost over a hundred years ago.
THE NEW COURSE The second course at the Home of Golf was designed by Tom Morris in 1895 and was imaginatively named to differentiate from its famous neighbour.
THE JUBILEE The third championship course at the Home of Golf, the Jubilee is considered by many to be the most challenging course on the famous Links.
THE EDEN Only slightly more forgiving than its contemporaries on the seaward side of the Links, the Eden Course was built in 1914.
THE STRATHTYRUM Designed to complement the tougher championship layouts at the Home of Golf, the Strathtyrum was designed by Donald Steele and opened in 1993.
THE CASTLE COURSE The newest addition to St Andrews Links, The Castle Course was built in 2008 becoming the seventh course at the Home of Golf and part of the largest public golfing complex in Europe.
